Beijing will scrap all taxis by the end of next year, and passengers will no longer pay a 1 yuan fuel surcharge

It is expected that by the end of next year, the scale of electric taxis in Beijing will reach nearly 20,000, more than 20% of the total. The reporter learned from the Rental Car Management Office of the Beijing Municipal Transportation Commission on October 30 that this year and next, Beijing will replace all the cruise taxis that have expired with pure electric vehicles. At the same time, new headlights and door decoration signs have been designed for the body. As of now, more than 1,000 pure electric taxis with new signs have been put into operation on the road.

What is the difference between the operating price of pure electric taxis and fuel taxis? Liu Jiying, a researcher at the Rental Car Management Office of the Beijing Municipal Transportation Commission, introduced that the current "rental price" in Beijing was set in 2013, starting at 13 yuan for 3 kilometers, 2.3 yuan per kilometer, and a fuel surcharge of 1 yuan per transportation for gasoline vehicles. The rental price of electric vehicles has basically remained unchanged, but there is no 1 yuan fuel surcharge for passengers.

It is worth mentioning that the image of the newly launched pure electric taxi is also eye-catching. Not only does the body have spray colors with different seasonal themes such as spring green and autumn blue for rental companies to choose from, but also the Tsinghua Academy of Fine Arts designed a new ceiling light and door decoration logo synchronously with the body color.

Beijing will replace all the cruise taxis that have expired this year and next with pure electric vehicles. Liu Jiying introduced that compared with the first demonstration operation of electric taxis in 2011, the performance of electric vehicles currently used has been greatly improved, especially the charging and swapping compatibility mode realizes that the battery can be recharged and exchanged, and the driver can replace the fully charged battery in just 3 minutes at the charging and swapping station, which reduces the waiting time for drivers to charge and improves operational efficiency.

In the past, electric taxis were subject to mileage restrictions. In order to save electricity, many drivers did not dare to turn on the warm air in winter, so they could only wrap their military coats to keep warm. Such embarrassment will become history. Bu Hongsheng, executive deputy general manager of the marketing business committee of BAIC Group, introduced that the mileage of the new model has been increased from 150 kilometers in the past to 300 kilometers, and the new product will be upgraded to 350 kilometers next year. In addition, the new model also adds new functions such as facial recognition, USB interface, one-click alarm, and remote control.

For pure electric taxis to operate normally, the construction of charging facilities is very critical. According to reports, by the end of 2020, the city will start more than 194 charging and swapping stations in the Fifth Ring Road, large residential areas, sub-centers of Tongzhou City, and around the airport. With the advance update of vehicles and the actual increase in the number, the corresponding charging and swapping stations will be started at any time. At the same time, combined with the operation of Daxing International Airport, 3 charging and swapping stations around the new airport will be started.

At the same time, it is also considering the layout of charging and swapping stations near the driver’s centralized shift area to meet the driver’s demand for power replacement on the way. As of now, 47 charging and swapping stations have been operated, and 88 will be reached by the end of the year. Drivers who meet the conditions for building piles will be given slow-charging piles.

Bu Hongsheng introduced that drivers can download the charging and changing APP through their mobile phones, check the operation of the nearby power changing station, and complete the settlement through the APP. According to the requirements of the Municipal Transportation Commission, all power changing stations in the city operate 24 hours a day, and an early warning mechanism has been established. "If the driver’s operation is delayed due to power outages, traffic closures and other reasons, the power changing station must give the driver certain compensation."
