Viewing Guide

Directed by Chen Musheng, Dehua Lau, Jackie Chan, Nicholas Tse, Fan Bingbing, Wu Jing, Yu Shaoqun, Shi Yanneng, Xiong Xinxin, Yu Hai, Bai Bing and other film industry leaders have joined forces to create "New Shaolin Temple", which has landed on major screens across the country. Recently, the producers exposed a documentary of "New Shaolin Temple", explaining many secrets behind the scenes.

It cost 20 million yuan and took four months to create a real Shaolin scene

Due to the weather, geographical location, the degree of repair of the temple itself, and good faith visits, director Chen Musheng, who had strict requirements for the quality of the film, finally decided to spend 20 million yuan to build a brand new "Shaolin Temple" in Fangyan Scenic Area in Zhejiang Province.

In order not to affect the filming progress of the film, the art director Xi Zhongwen led the art team and the setting team, led by the art director Liu Minxiong and the foreman Zhong Jianwei, to the setting site in person, and together with 150 workers including ironworking, carpentry, mud, setting, stone paving and painting, they braved the heavy rain to build on the 100,000-foot open space, rushing to work day and night. The final "New Shaolin Temple" was built, with a height and width one-third larger than the Shaolin Temple in Songshan Mountain. This is the first time in the history of Chinese film that a real scene has been fully imitated.

The "New Shaolin Temple" is constructed from three main halls: the Mountain Gate, the Hall of Heavenly Kings, and the Hall of Daxiong, and strives to be consistent with the Songshan Shaolin Temple in each place. In addition to the large setting, the art director Xi Zhongwen also paid great attention to the details of the creation. Just to perfectly shape the appearance of the 9-meter-9-meter-tall Buddha weighing nearly 10 tons in the Hall of Daxiong took the art department of the crew several months. It is reported that the entire Buddha statue was assembled and embedded by half a hundred workers in two weeks.

In addition to the temple and Buddha statues, the grass, trees, bricks and tiles in the temple are also the work of the crew. The two big trees in front of the Nobita Temple are copied from the precious bark of a kind of cedar called Tianmu Mountain, and the leaves are made of pine branches, which are slowly fitted by hand later. The floor tiles laid in the temple are carefully removed and appropriated from houses in the Ming Dynasty, which have high historical value.

At the beginning of the new year in 2010, director Chen Musheng led the main creators behind the scenes of the crew to visit the real scene in person for the last viewing before the shooting. The texture and details of the whole scene construction made Chen Musheng, Yuan Kui and others very satisfied.

Starring in the group, Shi Yan can be himself 10 years ago

On January 4, 2010, the cast of "New Shaolin Temple" was officially launched, and director Chen Musheng led the creators to hold a simple and formal opening ceremony.

Shi Yan, the Shaolin monk who plays Jingkong in the film, has officially entered the group, which will be his first appearance on the big screen as a monk. The label of converting to Shaolin at the age of 12 and the 32nd generation of Shaolin disciples in Songshan makes Shi Yan have a special affection for Shaolin Temple. In the face of the one-to-one Shaolin Temple real site, Shi Yan can feel a lot, and frankly said, "It’s like going back to ten years ago, being the self of ten years ago."

Nicholas Tse and Wu Daoyuan Kui set up tricks to try wig styling

In the first scene of "New Shaolin Temple", Hou Jie’s army broke into the Shaolin Temple, and Chen Musheng and Yuan Kui personally took command. The horses galloped through the disaster area, and the scene was magnificent and thrilling.

Nicholas Tse, the lead actor, appeared on the crew and set up tricks with martial arts director Yuan Kui on the spot, looking straight and proper. In order to distinguish the characters in the play, Nicholas Tse took the initiative to ask to try wig styling. Nicholas Tse, who plays the adjutant of Andy Lau, is handsome in military uniform.

Wu Jing led a group of Shaolin monks to overcome the cold

Wu Jing, a mainland kung fu youngster, played the role of the eldest senior brother Jingneng in "New Shaolin Temple". The wet and cold winter weather in the south made Wu Jing’s old wounds painful, but he still dedicated himself to filming action scenes. In addition to Wu Jing, the monks in the play, who are played by the orthodox monks of Songshan Shaolin Temple, are also troubled by falling into the water in the cold winter.

Andy Lau came on the snow, and the professional civil and military scenes were praised

After days of heavy snow, the filming work of the crew could not proceed smoothly. The day the star Andy Lau entered the group, the snow suddenly stopped, and the whole group cheered. In an interview, Lau talked about his understanding of the role, "I proposed to the director that I did not want to play only monks, and finally the director set the role of Hou Jie, a warlord, for me. I hope he can become an idea in the 1920s."

In order to successfully complete the first scene of Hou Jie making trouble in Shaolin Temple, Andy Lau and Wu Jing practiced hard on the shooting scene. After a scene was filmed, both of them were sweating profusely.

Fan Bingbing debuts with his mixed-race "daughter" and forms a "family of three" with Andy Lau

Fan Bingbing and 8-year-old Ruuna Shimada, a Chinese-Japanese mixed race, arrived on the same day, and Andy Lau gathered on the set of "a family of three". Fan Bingbing and Andy Lau both love Ruona in and out of the play, and director Chen Musheng explained the play to Ruona on the spot. Andy Lau toasted bread for Ruona on the spot, and the father-daughter relationship envied others.
